Location Lake Glenville, North Carolina
Lake Glenville, one of the treasures of North Carolina’s Southern Blue Ridge Mountains, is a
pristine mountain lake that sits on the Highlands/Cashiers Plateau at an elevation of 3,542
feet. The lake is the highest manmade lake east of the Mississippi, created in 1941 when a
dam was constructed on the Tuckasegee River, flooding the entire valley north of the town
of Cashiers. First settled in 1827 and known as Hamburg Township, the original town of
Glenville now sits at the bottom of a lake that reaches depths of 300 feet.
