UPSCALE LIVING MAGAZINE's PHOTO Submission Policy

Preparing Images for Inclusion on Upscale Living Magazine website + digital media:

Images Sizes: You can upload images of virtually any size, but keep it above 200px x 200px. Ideally, upload an image

that is at least 570px wide. For a main image, we prefer horizontal orientation in every section, although for fashion

stories, we often use vertical orientation as well. If you can't resize your own photos, upload at the current size and our

editors will resize for you.

File Types: We always prefer JPEG images in RGB Color.

Number of Images: You can always upload up to five (5) images to an article in your profile. The first image you upload

should be the one you would like to see as the thumb (or main). We may choose to rearrange your photos, or not use

them at all in lieu of better ones we may have access to. Please refrain from attempting to embed images into the text

of your story, unless you have prior clearance from Upscale Living Magazine.

Note: As of January 1, 2011, even if you have previously embedded images in your story you will have to reapply for

clearance to continue doing so.

Note: Never upload images that do not belong on Upscale Living Magazine, this includes innappropriate images and

unprofessional photography. Innaproprate images include, but are not limited to, nudity and distasteful images that

might be found offensive, as well as photos that are simply irrelevant to the story. Unprofessional photography

includes, but is not limited to, blurry or low-quality images. Photography that falls into these categories will be deleted,

and may result in a warning or deletion of your contributor account. The Golden Rule: Make sure you have the right to

publish!

Was the image you sent us yours or ? - If you  took the picture (or designed it) yourself, that's great! as long as you still

hold the rights, you can publish the image. If you  the image from a press kit: No problem, images from press kits are

meant to accompany editorial coverage.  If you  took the image from a website such as a US Federal website or know

for certain the image is in the public domain, you can publish. If you paid for the image along with the proper rights, you

can also publish it. Examples of sites offering images for sale include shutterstock.com, istock.com, corbis.com and

gettyimages.com. If you found the image on Wikipedia (commons.wikimedia.org) are often times part of the public

domain or have been licensed to be used by anyone. Check under the "Licensing" section under the image to be sure.

If it does NOT say you are free to copy, distribute and transmit the work, DO NOT PUBLISH. If you found in a search

engine's results (ie Google), more than likely you CANNOT publish it.  You must go to the site where the image lives to

find out for sure. Generally speaking, do not search for images this way. If you got the image from the official site for the

product, service or place you have written about:, you MUST have permission from the publicist or owner of said site to

use the image. If you do not have express permission, you MAY NOT PUBLISH IT.

Release and Limitations of Liability: In the end, you are responsible for the images that you upload to Upscale Living

Magazine. It is your sole responsibility to follow our guidelines IN ADDITION TO any terms and conditions stated by the

owner(s) of the image. You must also adhere to any applicable copyright laws.

UPSCALE LIVING MAGAZINE's ARTICLE Submission Policy

Writing for Upscale Living Magazine:

Basics Information:

Submit original content, as it tends to receive the most traffic and is therefore the most beneficial to both you and

Upscale Living Magazine. You can also submit articles that have previously run elsewhere, as long as you still own the

rights.

The minimum length for an article posted to Upscale Living Magazine is 300 words. There are some exceptions to this

rule, but you run the risk of rejection if the write-up is any less.

The maximum length for an article posted to Upscale Living Magazine is 1200 words. There are also some exceptions

to this rule, but you run the risk of the editorial team cutting your story down, so be advised!

Word Count Best Practices:

   * Fashion, Product & Service Stories: 300-600 words

   * Hotel Reviews & Travel Stories: 400-1000 words

   * Restaurant Stories: 400-600 words

Keep article formatting to a minimum. We appreciate that some writers choose to format articles for us. Thank you!

However, please limit yourself to using basic HTML such as bold, italics, bullets and breaks. If you do not know what

any of that means, don’t worry, we will take care of it for you.

Search engines like Google depend on keywords and succinct titles to identify what a page is about. Here are a few

tips to ensure your article is read correctly by search engines and as a result receives the maximum amount of

readers. Utilize keywords that are relevant to the content of the article. If an article is on Paris Fashion Week, make

sure to use words like Paris, Fashion Week, designer, and/or runway a couple of times throughout the piece.  Don’t

over do it, we will most likely reject the piece, as search engines will see it as spam. Plus it just doesn’t look or sound

good. Strengthen keywords by making them into links that point to appropriate pages on JustLuxe. (You might point the

word Paris to our page of Paris hotels for example).  Pick a good title by making it exactly what the article is about. We

know it’s boring, but the fact is nobody is going to type “Sparkling Parisian Nights” into a search bar. They WILL type in

“Paris Fashion Week Parties”. Make it a point to have keywords towards the beginning of your title.  In a world

overflowing with written content, it is very important that Upscale Living Magazine readers know who we are and what

we are about. We strive to bring readers unique and informative stories, with full disclosure.
