Susanne Hatje, GM of the Mandarin Oriental Boston is one of the few
women to reach the top echelon of her profession as General
Manager of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Boston. She is impossibly
chic, a reflection perhaps, of her well-traveled lifestyle. We are
strolling around the Dynasty Suite of the Mandarin which is an
elegant, yet refreshingly modern space complete with a marble
bathroom and a boutique style closet that is not unlike something that
Mr. Big would dream up for Carrie Bradshaw.
The decor of the Mandarin is that of brilliantly executed luxury mixed
with subtle touches of Asian influence--a fresh and exciting addition to
the surrounding Old world architecture of Boston. If you visit the
Mandarin, you must book a Time Ritual treatment at the spa, which is
totally customized to whatever you are needing at that moment. The
spa features ice fountains, vitality pools and a divine Crystal Steam
Room.

Armani-clad and glistening in layers of fantastic jewelry, Susanne in undeniably elegant, but it is her vivacity that is truly
engaging. Of her fondest memory of the hotel thus far she describes with much delight, the experience of working with the
staff in preparation to the hotel opening. "I have had so many fantastic experiences working here. We have the honor of
helping to create wonderful memories for our guests, and this is very rewarding. But when I think of my greatest moment so
far, I will always remember the the day before we opened the hotel. Before the ribbon was cut, and before any guests had
stepped inside. I was in the ballroom, surrounded by all of our staff who had worked so hard to make it happen. And it was
amazing".
She talks about the joy of being with her family, and watching as her nephews "begin exploring the world". Exploration is a
major part of her life, and her lightly bronzed skin is a reflection of her recent trip to Hawaii. And before that, it was Hong
Kong. "I am now looking forward to experience the vibrancy of Boston" she says, "I am so excited to see what this
amazing American city has to offer".
